Why Psychosocial Safety Climate Matters: The New Frontier of Workplace Wellbeing

Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) is rapidly redefining the future of workplace wellbeing, shifting attention from individual resilience to the organisational systems that create or prevent psychological harm. This keynote, will demonstrate why PSC is now recognised internationally as a leading indicator of work conditions, mental health outcomes, and organisational performance. It will examine how senior management priorities and values shape exposure to psychosocial risks such as excessive work pressure, bullying, low job control, and inadequate support, and how PSC predicts burnout, sickness absence, and costly psychological injury claims. Drawing on global datasets, regulatory developments, and sector‑wide initiatives such as the PSC Observatory and the national Australian University PSC Census, the presentation will outline how organisations can strengthen PSC through leadership, governance, and transparent monitoring. This keynote positions PSC as a structural, evidence‑based approach that elevates psychological health as a core work health and safety obligation and offers a pathway to safer, fairer, and more productive workplaces.
